Choline Content of Milk
نویسنده
چکیده
Dear Sir,?I read with some concern the notes of K. R. regarding my reference on choline content of milk published in the February 1951 issue of the Gazette. The edible portion of dry skim milk, dry whole milk and fresh milk being common in all the three varieties, how could the choline content in the first two vary by dilution ? It is of course true that a given quantity of dry skim or dry whole milk can be increased to any volume through dilution in water; but the value of choline content will remain constant if the original quantity of the dry milk is taken into consideration.

Effects of Feeding Rumen Protected Choline and Vitamin E on Milk Yield, Milk Composition, Dry Matter Intake, BodyCondition Score and Body Weight in Early Lactating Dairy Cows
Twenty four primiparous and multiparous Holstein cows on early lactation, beginning five weeks postpartum, were used for four weeks to investigate the effects of supplemention of rumen-protected choline (RPC) or vitamin E on milk yield, milk composition, dry matter intake, body condition score and body weight. The cows were randomly assigned to one of the following treatments: I)no supplement (...

The objective of the present study was to determine the effects of rumen-protected choline (RPC) supplementation on body condition, milk production and milk choline content during the periparturient period. Thirty-two Holstein cows were allocated into two groups (RPC group - with RPC supplementation, and control group - without RPC supplementation) 28 days before the expected calving. Cows were...
متن کاملThe choline content of human breast milk expressed during the first few weeks of lactation.
Choline is a conditionally essential nutrient required by the human body for synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and the phospholipids phosphatidylcholine (PtdCho), lysophosphatidylcholine, sphingomyelin (SM) and plasmalogen. It also undergoes irreversible oxidation to form betaine, a major source of methyl groups. Betaine is excreted by human infants in large quantities (up to 1 mo...
متن کاملNutrition in pregnancy: the argument for including a source of choline
Women, during pregnancy and lactation, should eat foods that contain adequate amounts of choline. A mother delivers large amounts of choline across the placenta to the fetus, and after birth she delivers large amounts of choline in milk to the infant; this greatly increases the demand on the choline stores of the mother. Adequate intake of dietary choline may be important for optimal fetal outc...

The effects of a dietary supplement of rumen-protected choline on feed intake, milk yield, milk composition, blood metabolites, and hepatic triacylglycerol were evaluated in periparturient dairy cows. Thirty-eight multiparous cows were blocked into 19 pairs and then randomly allocated to either one of 2 treatments. The treatments were supplementation either with or without (control) rumen-prote...
